Statewide Offices
Our state is home to a broad range of natural resources and scientific knowledge that, when combined, can transform communities from Manteo to Murphy.
To bring that vision to reality, we opened our first statewide office in the Piedmont Triad in 2003. Offices followed quickly in Asheville, Wilmington, Greenville and Charlotte. Today, each region is building its unique biotechnology blueprint.
Our staff, in partnership with regional leaders, has solidified those blueprints into a permanent statewide footprint – a portfolio of strengths from forestry to marine science, natural products to medical devices.
Research Triangle Park Headquarters - RTP
In 1984, the North Carolina state legislature established NCBiotech as the world’s first government-sponsored biotechnology center. Our RTP office pioneered biotechnology frontiers ever since.
Eastern Office - Greenville
The Eastern Office taps into research at East Carolina University as well as deep agriculture, manufacturing, marine and education resources. The region boasts research and development in agricultural biotechnology, biomanufacturing and processing, and marine biotechnology, in addition to various networking opportunities.

Greater Charlotte Office - Charlotte
The Greater Charlotte Regional office serves North Carolina’s largest metro and growing, diverse life sciences ecosystem. Reflective of the region’s international flavor, it is home to a spectrum of strengths, including bioinformatics, genomics, medical devices, health, nutrition, and artificial intelligence. Convenient to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the region is an optimal location for many international firms.
Piedmont Triad Office - Winston-Salem
Community leaders engaged with us to grow this region’s broad-based cluster of biotech companies. The Piedmont Triad contributes advancements in nanobiotechnology, regenerative medicine, agricultural biotech, biopharmaceuticals and medical devices. The Center’s office here is located in one of the region’s two developing research parks.
Southeastern Office - Wilmington
The Southeastern Region is home to an impressive clinical research industry cluster, strong assets for marine biotechnology commercialization, and significant industrial biotechnology opportunities, such as energy/fuel, derived from biomass production and from waste streams of industrial, agricultural, marine, and municipal processes. The Southeastern Office leads economic development efforts to strengthen and grow these biotech subsectors throughout the region.
Western Office - Asheville
Surrounded by the most diverse plant life in the U.S., the Western region’s office in the Small Business Center on the campus of A-B Tech Community College works to help the region merge biotechnology with its natural assets. The West thrives in entrepreneurship, agricultural biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, medical devices and fermentation technologies.
